April 13, 2007 It is my distinct pleasure to endorse and recommend the consulting services of Laura Benjamin . I had the opportunity to work with Ms. Benjamin for approximately two months in my role as the Director of Child and Family Services at Pikes Peak Mental Health Center . PPMH is a large and complex non-profit organization that provides behavioral healthcare solutions for individuals in the Colorado Springs region. Our organization contacted Ms. Benjamin to help facilitate improved communication within our service network. We were in a difficult spot—communication within and across our service teams had deteriorated. Relationships between staff and supervisors were problematic, and a sense of teamwork had vanished. Workplace camaraderie had been replaced by infighting and unhealthy competition. Ms. Benjamin quickly grasped the situation and worked collaboratively with us to define specific consultation targets. Our goals focused on developing appropriate conflict resolution strategies and restoring healthy communication patterns within and across teams. Most importantly, we also wanted to refocus our attention on achieving our mission-related goals, even in the midst of substantial internal and external change. Ms. Benjamin was a veritable dynamo of energy, ideas, and passion. She utilized a variety of tools to assess our organizational culture and the role of leadership in our business. These methods suggested some areas of misalignment and provided data for several productive conversations with staff and supervisors. Ms. Benjamin also suggested a number of specific actions and interventions that had instantaneous payoffs. We saw almost immediate increases in team morale, group cohesion, and commitment to shared goals. Ms. Benjamin also had many ideas about how to select and retain high-quality staff in a business environment that is marked by almost constant change. Laura Benjamin is a tremendous professional resource with a depth of business and leadership knowledge that is truly astounding.
